Morning Routines
7.2.16I've learned to love mornings. There's something satisfying about accomplishing a few simple tasks before the day officially starts. Starting your day with a series of simple, achievable and positive habits can improve health, mental and physical wellbeing, productivity and creativity. It's no wonder that morning routines hold an important part in the daily lives of many successful entrepreneurs and creatives.
Why have a morning routine?
Willpower is the strongest in the morning. Studies have established that willpower is depleted the more you use it, which makes mornings the best time to accomplish tasks requiring focus and determination.
The stress hormone, cortisol, is highest in the morning. This actually makes mornings the worst time for coffee, as caffeine stimulates cortisol production. Basically, your body naturally 'self-caffeinates' when you wake up. Instead, make time in the mornings to calm your mind. Spending a few minutes quietly meditating and reflecting not only reduces stress levels, it also strengthens your focus and willpower, preparing you mentally for the day.
Set your alarm to at least 30mins earlier. Make time so you don't rush. And start in summer, when it's easier to wake up early.
A few habits you can include to get your started:
Be flexible - your routine is not a to-do checklist! Don't get frustrated if you have to skip a few steps. At the same time, be firm in your resolve to stick your routine. Start with a few simple habits, some of which you probably already do, then...
Change or add a new element at a time. And stick to it. Remember, it takes 30+ days to form a new habit - therefore, the more you do, the easier it becomes.

My morning routine:
6:00-6:30am Wake up. Drink a big glass of water. Water plants
6:45am Roll out yoga mat. Do oil pulling and practice yoga (30mins) (may not be best practice to do both simultaneously... but sometimes I need to take shortcuts)
7:15am Pray. Meditate
7:30am Eat breakfast
8:00am Brush teeth. Wash face. Hair, makeup and get dressed for work
8:30am Walk to work

Hey Shay! Shilpa and I have a morning routine going. I learnt today jogging does a much better job of waking you up than washing your face! Also like your point about being flexible cause sometimes we miss a few things and get stressed about it. Haha! - Chirag

8:05 am - Black coffee and start working
